/in Nursing /by adminAs a current or future health care administration leader, how will you decide which statistical test is most appropriate for the goal of monitoring, tracking, or overseeing operations in your health services organization?
Each statistical test is dependent on a given set of research parameters and expectations. As you have examined throughout this course, understanding why and when to use each statistical test is necessary in conducting the tests for process control and comparison. Thus, chi-square tests are useful for table data, ANOVA for a single quantitative dependent variable and categorical independent variables, and ANOM for analysis of mean differences. Regression modeling is useful for determining the influence of independent variables on a quantitative dependent variable.
For this Assignment, review the resources for this week regarding chi-square, ANOVA, ANOM, and regression. Pay particular attention to the examples shown in the textbook.
The Assignment: (4–5 pages)
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
/in Nursing /by adminShamans view health and illness from a different perspective compared to the conventional medical perception: shamanic views associate energetic loss and spiritual connection or disconnection with certain types of diseases (Lawson, 2016). For example, illnesses such as anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders are spiritually connectedand require spiritual intervention rather than conventional medicinal treatments. Further, similar signs and symptoms are not caused by the same energetic loss, and therefore, each requires a different spiritual approach.
Shamans approach the healing process through prayers because they believe diseases are caused by various etiological factors, including malevolent agents and evil spirits. Hence, rituals performed by special persons are the remedies for most ailments, although they might include herbalists to prescribe traditional medicines. Additionally, the shamanic view involves prevention measures such as burnt incense to keep away evil spirits, black magic, and other disease-causing agents (Penkala-Gawęcka, 2017). Similar to the conventional medication processes, the shamanic approach recognizes a specialized person, a healer who performs the rituals by invoking the ancestral spirits and prescribing herbal medicine, while the prevention measures are carried out by everyone, especially the parents and elders, to protect their children and families.
Nurses interact with various patients whose perspective toward life and the afterlife varies. In most cases, terminally ill patients or patients with life-threatening conditions ask questions about the meaning of life and the nature of spirituality (Goldstein, 2019). Nurses with shamanic perspectives easily and deeply engage the patients in religious philosophies and spirituality. Indeed, the shamanic approach to health and illness adds to holistic nursing practices.

Natural disasters cause negative consequences on communities and states as they wreak havoc and cause loss of lives and property. Tornadoes are common examples of disasters that have resulted in devastating effects on communities. The catastrophes, also, result in situations of competing needs and claims from the affected societies. Distributive justice ensures the distribution of benefits and equal allocation of burdens in situations of scarce resources.
In 2021, a series of tornadoes ripped across six states killing hundreds of individuals. The states of Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Illinois, and Arkansas were greatly affected by the disaster. Most casualties were reported in Kentucky, with at least 74 people dead, which was recorded ad the worst event in the state’s history (Cohen, 2021). Most homes were reduced to nothing resulting in displacements of most families. The impact affected life and livelihoods causing pressure on nearby accommodations as people moved to find shelter.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was tasked with implementing initiatives that reduce barriers to accessing and delivering equitable outcomes for all survivors. The government agency commits to serving all individuals regardless of differences in their backgrounds and existing language barriers (FEMA, 2021). The ethical principle of justice, distributive justice, aims to offer relief assistance in all situations to all affected societies (James and Gilliland, 2016). Personnel who have experience working with Hispanic and Latino communities were assigned to reduce the potential ethnic barriers.
Effective leadership
/in Nursing /by adminPractice Question: In adult patients aged 18 years and older with a diagnosis of depression, will implementing the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guidelines for exercising impact depression scores over 8-10 weeks?
Effective leadership is the stronghold and success of every organization. As a leader, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student, a clinical expert, and an advanced practice nurse, I must be well-positioned and prepared to engage with members of both the intra-professional and inter-professional teams to support changes in my organization, nursing, and within the healthcare industry. I must be fully aware of my strengths, my gaps, and my vision for the organization. I must be able to lead, motivate, empower, and guide my team in trusting the vision, and together as a strong team, we achieve the organizational goals.
Leadership Strengths
Some great qualities I hold as a leader include, effective communication, interpersonal skills, and strong character (Johnson and Smith, 2018). I communicate effectively and powerfully with my team members keeping them abreast of the organizational goals, expectations, and outcomes while encouraging open communication among the team. This helps build better understanding, teamwork, and trust among the team while promoting the company’s goals and outcomes. As a leader, I have well-established interpersonal skills and collaborative ability, being able to collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to foster healthy living and quality care for our patients. I am respectful of myself and others, I understand the common goals we share as team members within an organization, providing the best quality evidence-based care to our patients. Through respect, I’m able to gain confidence both within and outside my team which creates positive relationships, teamwork, and high productivity.
Strong character with high integrity and honesty has enabled me to lead, motivate, and champion innovation and change, being able to embrace and generate better innovative ways to improve performance among the staff.
I have used my skills as the leader and change agent for my DNP Project. I was able to communicate effectively, sought clinical opinions, and engaged both intra-professional and inter-professional teams in my project goals together as a unified team we have decided to implement my DNP project to improve patient outcomes.
Emotional intelligence is another strong leadership quality I possess. Through emotional intelligence, I’m able to respect, recognize, empathize, and understand, others, being able to recognize the clinical expertise of the interprofessional team and their strong clinical contribution toward the successful implementation of my DNP project (Tiffin and Paton, 2020).
A Leadership skill I need to develop is delegation. I need to be able to leverage the strength of others, being able to assign specific activities to others to promote positive patient outcomes. To achieve this goal, I must become familiar with their strengths, goals, and passions being able to delegate tasks that they are passionate about and skilled to perform.
Provide your instructor and student colleagues with an update on your implementation plans for your DNP Project. Share any successes, challenges, or barriers you experienced this week
Fortunately, I received both my IRB prescreening approval and my Chamberlain’s IRB waiver for project implementation this week. Did your preceptor provide you with timely feedback when you had questions?
Did your preceptor review and provide you with feedback (if applicable)?
Did your preceptor serve as a professional role model for you this session?
My preceptor has been an exceptional role model, has been readily accessible, and responds to my questions in a timely fashion. He is quite eager to see me succeed.

Mechanical Ventilation
/in Nursing /by adminWeaning from mechanical ventilation should be considered when the disease process prompting intubation has improved. Daily screening of intubated patients for weaning potential should be performed. Several studies show that most patients on mechanical ventilation should have scheduled spontaneous breathing trials (SBT) following daily sedation breaks(Zakhary & Uppal, 2017). Aside from the improvement of the primary etiology of the disease process, the patient should be alert, following commands, initiating breaths, able to hold their head up, able to cough with the recent PaO2 ≥ 60 with FiO2 ≤ 40% and PEEP ≤ 8 and needs suctioning ≤ every 4 hours, and hemodynamically stable with minimal pressor support before considering extubation(Zakhary & Uppal, 2017). Daily SBT should involve at least 30-120 mins of breathing without significant ventilatory support, specifically the use of either an open T-piece breathing system or minimal amounts of ventilatory support such as pressure support to overcome the resistance of the ETT or low levels of CPAP(Jameson et al., 2020). However, the patient must initiate all breaths and control tidal volume. A successful SBT is where the patient continues to breathe without distress with stable vital signs and a stable arterial or ETCO2 tension. Tachypnea, hypoxemia, tachycardia, bradycardia, hypotension, hypertension, increased anxiety, or diaphoresis are some indications of SBT failure(Jameson et al., 2020). Other risks during the weaning process are unplanned extubation, especially when the patient becomes suddenly very restless and agitated and develops dysrhythmias. If the SBT is successful, rapid shallow breathing index (RSBI) or f/VT, calculated as a respiratory rate per min divided by the TV in liters, should be done at the end of SBT, which can be used to predict weanability. An RSBI of <105 at the end of SBT warrants an extubation trial(Jameson et al., 2020). Despite a thorough weaning trial, patients may still develop respiratory distress after extubation and may require a reintubation.
